Permeability

Permeability of Educational Pathways

Extending choices about training and education to individuals is the natural consequence of a process, in which position requirements and work assignments are increasingly open and diverse. Continuous learning during the entire working life can be organised not only in programmes and courses. As qualification requirements change continually and quickly, different types of informal learning aimed at vocational development and employability are gaining more and more importance. This applies in particular to learning in the work process, learning in the social environment and self-organised learning.Permeability of educational pathways then, for instance, means:

  • That transitioning from initial to continuing training is more flexible;
  • That access of qualified professionals to academic programmes is made easier;
  •  That professional and academic trainings, and initial and continuing trainings are more closely interlinked (including, for instance, the new research- and practice-oriented degree programmes);

That modular routes for systematic and continuous professional progression / development are being established

Educational Pathways

Particularly in Germany, it is important to go beyond the strict separation of different domains of education and to realize equivalence of various educational and learning routes.
