Lifelong Learning and Professional Qualification

The importance for lifelong learning (LLL) is beyond doubt and has been clearly addressed by all European initiatives on qualification. Learning competence is considered a crucial wider competence and ways to foster it are increasingly part of the set up of education and training systems. In November 2001, the Commission adopted a communication on Making a European Area of Lifelong Learning a Reality. It identified coherent strategies and practical measures with a view to fostering lifelong learning for all and makes an important contribution to achieving the strategic goal set at Lisbon.
